Photo Diary of Asti's pups week 1

	10 January 2003 (birthday) This is Asti with her new babies just minutes after her last pup was born. She took one and a half hours to whelp her five babies. She seemed very relaxed throughout and is nursing the babies well. All the pups are strong and healthy, nicely marked and have Asti's lovely head markings. Meet left to right black/white girl 5th born, red/white boy 3rd born, red/white girl 2nd born, black/white boy 1st born, black/white girl 4th born.
	11 January 2003 (day 2) This is Asti's little red & white girl. At 2 days old you can see basenji pups have little pink noses, eyes are tightly shut and ears are very mobile but closed. In this photo you can just see the dew claw on the inside of her leg. The red of the coat has lots of black guard hairs at this age and the real red won't appear until she's older. You can also see wrinkling on the forehead although her full wrinkles won't appear until her ears are up in a few weeks time.
	12 January 2003 (day 3) Asti cuddling one of her black & white girls - they're fast asleep. Meanwhile next door her other black & white daughter is busy suckling. The pups are currently putting on about 30 grams a day to their body weight.
	13 January 2003 (day 4) Like father, like daughter, like son, see the photo on Blade's page and you'll know what I mean. These two decided to do a dual Blade pose. The pups were unhappy today after having their dew claws removed. You can just see the stitches in the girl on top and you can see a big bloody spot on the boy below. These will heal up in a few days. Last nights weigh-in showed quite a jump averaging 55 grams with one boy putting on 60 grams! No wonder they need to sleep on their backs!
	14 January 2003 (day 5) We captured this shot this evening. The red & white cuddling a black & white. When the pups aren't suckling, they're dreaming of suckling! The noises they make range from convincing human baby cries, cat purrs to clear bird tweets - quite a vocabulary!
	15 January 2003 (day 6) The nose pigmentation is really starting to come through now. It starts off as small black spots and these grow in size and meet up with other black spots until eventually the whole nose is filled in black. It happens at a very fast rate, you can literally see the difference in pigmentation from day to day. The gums are also showing the outline of the teeth underneath so they will be breaking through very shortly.
